Does Anthem Cover Lactation Support? Here's What You Need to Know

If you have Anthem insurance, you may be eligible for virtual lactation visits covered as a wellness benefit through Anthem's Building Healthy Families program.

Who's Eligible

This benefit is available to Anthem members who are pregnant, within 12 months postpartum, or have a child under 12 months old. It covers members on fully insured Anthem plans. If you're on a self-funded employer plan, coverage depends on whether your employer opted into this benefit.

Your insurance card needs to say Anthem specifically. Not just Blue Cross — it must say Anthem.

How it Works

Getting started is a two-step process:

Step 1: Fill out our eligibility form here. This verifies your coverage.

Step 2: Enroll in Anthem's Building Healthy Families (BHF) program. After you submit the form, you'll be automatically directed to sign up through the Sydney Health app on your phone or at Anthem.com on a computer. You'll know you're done when you see a screen that says "Welcome."

⚠️ One important note: do NOT tap any buttons that say "Lactation" during this process. That will reroute you away from us.

Step 3: Once enrolled, you'll receive a confirmation email from Wildflower Health with instructions to schedule your virtual appointment.

What's Included

Anthem covers up to 2 prenatal visits and up to 6 postpartum visits. This program is virtual only.
