Made Possible by Our Supporters
What is the Grant-Funded Therapy Program
Our Free Occupational Therapy & Lactation program exists because cost should not determine the accessibility or quality of care. The program covers occupational therapy and lactation visits for families who qualify, connecting families to specialized infant feeding and development services in the early weeks and months of parenthood.
The goal is to screen infants from birth, provide the earliest possible intervention for developmental milestones, and extend the duration of breastfeeding. Visits are held at our Carson office, with limited in-home availability.
This program is made possible through grant funding, and it allows us to pay clinicians equitable rates. Every gift directly extends care to one more family.
You may qualify if you:
Pregnant or postpartum
Are breastfeeding or weaning
Have feeding or developmental concerns
Are uninsured, underinsured, or facing cost barriers
Live in South Bay Los Angeles
Who This Serves
What the program covers:
Occupational therapy for infant feeding, motor, and sensory development
Manual therapy (or bodywork) for infants
Lactation consultations
In-office or virtual visits
Why this matters
Infant health: Black infants in Los Angeles County have higher rates of preterm birth, low birth weight, and NICU admission. These are the same conditions that drive infant feeding, motor, and sensory needs.
Developmental Delay: Black children with developmental delays are about 5x less likely to receive early intervention by 24 months.
Feeding: Black mothers initiate breastfeeding at 69.4%, compared to 85.9% of white mothers, but by 6 months, only 44.7% of Black infants are still being breastfed at all, compared to 62% of white infants.
Culturally Congruent Care: Only 4% of occupational therapists nationally identify as Black, so families rarely get to work with a clinician who shares their background.

“Dairian was a life saver for my lactation journey. I came in a sad, struggling mom on the verge of giving up and she helped me to get my mind and body right to enjoy my journey with my baby. We went through EVERYTHING — hormones, food, medication, stress, you name it! The added bonus is that in addition to a lactation consultant, she’s also an Occupational Therapist so she was able to make recommendations about my son’s development as well. 2 for 1! My son loves her and she is so good with him. I hope she adds some toddler programs into her scheduling because we won’t be ready to let her go when the time comes.”
What Families Say
“It has been a pleasure working with Dairian. She came into our lives at the perfect time, a time when we didn’t know how much we would soon need her support, compassion and expertise. At each visit my family and I were met with empathy, fact based education, and reputable recommendations. I truly believe we could not have made it through our tongue tie challenges without her. Dairian is warm, personable and easy to talk to. We wish every family could have a Dairian. Because of you Dairian my angel and I breastfeeding journey can continue strong and hopefully for a long time.”
our goal
Since 2024, we’ve completed over 170 visits at no cost to families. In 2027, we want to complete 120 visits!
